The wait is finally over. Almost five months after it dropped in the United States, Disney+ has launched in the UK, and the timing couldn’t be better.
Boasting a catalogue of films, documentaries and TV shows, Disney+ is already set to rival Netflix and Amazon Prime, and there's plenty of content original content already in the pipeline.
But as you scroll through looking for things to watch, I’ve got five films that may whet your appetite for you to check out this weekend.
Disney+ is available at £5.99 a month, or £59.99 for the year (and comes with a 7-day trial). Each subscription allows you to watch on up to four devices at a time – so it’s ideal for sharing; Disney have enough money.
Hidden Gem: CoCo (2018)
Director – Lee Unkrich – 105mins – Age Certificate: PG
Towards the end of the last decade, Pixar were cashing in on their success and released a number of sequels – Finding Dory, Cars 3 and Incredibles 2. As good as some of these were, Pixar are arguably at their best when it comes to producing original one-off films, such as Up, Inside Out and now CoCo.
Instead of the usual summer releases, Coco’s end of January cinematic release meant that it maybe flew under the radar a little bit. The film follows a music-mad 12-year-old boy called Miguel, who falls out with his family and finds himself among the Land of the Dead.
With help from his deceased ancestors and his musical icon, Miguel has only until the end of the festival to be reunited with his family and overturn their ban on music.
Based around the Mexican holiday, Day of the Dead, Coco is an incredibly fun and heart-warming family film and certainly worth a watch this weekend.

Marathon Training: Iron Man (2008)
Director – Jon Favreau – 126mins – Age Certificate: 12
As people around the country start preparing for a marathon with their new-found love of running, for those who feel guilt-free sitting on the sofa there’s a Marvel Cinematic Universe marathon for you.
2019’s Avengers: Endgame effectively ended the first three Phases of this Universe, spanning 11 years and 22 films, so why not watch them from the beginning (for the first time or for the tenth time); starting with Iron Man.
There’s no The Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo replaced Edward Norton as Hulk for The Avengers in 2012 anyway) or Spider-Man: Far From Home (which came after Endgame), but apart from these, every MCU film is available on Disney+.
Robert Downey Jr plays the egotistical super-engineer Tony Starke who builds a mechanical suit of armour to become Iron Man.
The full list of films in order can be found here, but it’s time to fall back in love with these characters and watch it all over again. Please keep me updated with how you’re getting on in the marathon!

Disney Classic: Robin Hood (1974)
Director – Wolfgang Reitherman – 83mins – Age Certificate: U
With all the old classics being added to Disney+, it’s time for me to recommend to you my all-time favourite classic Disney film; Robin Hood.
There’s been countless spin-offs, re-makes – and let’s try and forget the awful Robin Hood film with Taron Egerton and Jamie Foxx from 2018 - but nothing will beat this 1974 Disney musical animation.
All of the characters are animals, with Robin Hood rather aptly portrayed as a fox, with the film centring around the legendary outlaw as he aims to take down Prince John, give the poor their money back and win the heart of Maid Marian.

Guy Movies Favourite: Saving Mr Banks (2013)
Director – John Lee Hancock – 125mins – Age Certificate: PG
Ever wondered how Mary Poppins went from a successful children’s book to a cult Disney movie? No, me neither. But throw Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson into this and all of a sudden it becomes rather an appealing movie idea.
Thompson portrays the fierce P. L. Travers, the author of the Mary Poppins books, as she battles with Walt Disney (Hanks) over his idea of turning her beloved story into a Disney musical.
The film has several flashbacks to Travers’ difficult childhood in Australia, which is the inspiration for Mary Poppins, with the emphasis on Travers’ loving relationship with her father, despite his battles with alcohol.
It’s something a bit different that’s on Disney+, and just like a classic Disney film, it takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions.

Modern Great: Zootropolis (2016)
Directors – Byron Howard and Rich Moore – 108mins – Age Certificate: PG
Zootropolis, or Zootopia for anyone outside the UK and Ireland, is another fantastic Disney animation film that focuses on an unlikely duo, Judy Hopps, a rabbit police officer, and Nick Wilde, a fox con artist, as they work together to try and unearth a mysterious crime that’s occurring in the town.
Idris Elba, Jason Batemen and J.K. Simmons are part of the star-studded voice cast in Zootropolis, that grossed over $1billion worldwide when it was released in Easter 2016.
The highlight of this film is THAT scene when Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) goes to the Department of Mammal Vehicles and is served by a sloth.
This film is a great feel-good film and a nice easy watch this weekend, so check it out.
